Where every day is a new view
Welcome to Callidus Visio Photography!
Callidus Visio - or Clever Vistas - Photography is my chance to share with you the beauty and amazement I find in literally everything! Many photographers develop a niche where they simply excel. I suppose I am either a classic "jack of all trades" or a tiny bit ADD when it comes to photography. My hope is that you enjoy the many views I see of the world as much as I do. And if you see something you particularly like, please contact me for pricing and print options. Enjoy!
NGC 2359 - Thor's Helmet
THIS WEEK'S FEATURED PHOTO
NGC 2359 is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major, named for its resemblance to the horned helmet worn by the hammer wielding Norse God. The nebula is approximately 11.96 thousand light years away and 30 light-years in size. The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star WR7, an extremely hot star thought to be in a brief pre-supernova stage of evolution.
This image is the product of three nights of data capture. It is a composite of 131 individual images each exposed for 5 minutes. Half of the images are of hydrogen alpha gas while the other half are oxygen gas. Each image is photographed in monochrome with a filter allowing only the wavelength of the particular gas through to the camera sensor. About 3 hours of processing on the computer combines the subs, assigns them to color channels and yields the full color image.
